Just before I left for New York, I got this amazing blazer from my sister’s best friend who happens to be the owner of Afriek. It’s a fashion brand, creating the most beautiful basics for men – soon launching their women’s collection. Crafted in Kigali, Rwanda, all of their fabrics are imported from Nigeria and the Ivory Coast. Now, and I’m not getting paid, nor pushed to write about this, Afriek is a label I support for 100%. She launched the business through crowd funding and is quickly finding her way up the ladder. I admire people who think out of the box, try to do or create something that hasn’t been done a million times before. Also, when it comes to fashion, a brand that works with a fair production and payment process. So when I saw this blazer on my sister when she joined me to Amsterdam fashion week early July, I knew I had to have it. Such a statement piece! And I got so many compliments when walking the streets of the West Village with this one. So I wanted to shoot it, and wear it to fashion week, so I can do my part in getting her name and clothing out there.
