HOW TO GET A GOOD PIC

how to get a good picHow to get a good pic? There obviously not one way to do it, and I’m not an expert, I know many people who could tell you way better – but I’m just sharing my experience. I’m usually not the one behind the lens, I don’t know a lot about our camera. But I do know this! And since I do take all my Instagrams myself, and also do all the editing, I can tell you a thing or two.

  1. Light. Light is everything and more. Without good light, taking a good photo will be difficult. I prefer to have natural light when I shoot, but not too bright. When it’s a bit cloudy, I usually get the best pics because the light is more diffuse – more moody. I prefer not to use backlight too much, but other girls will say it’s a must. It’s really up to you what you like best, play around with it!
  2. Equipment. Having the right equipment will help your photo. I don’t think you have to spend a fortune though, it’s all about the lens you use. As I told you guys before, my fave is the 85mm 1.8, it’s not even the expensive version (although this one is not cheap either). And for my Instagrams I use an iPhone 6. Investing some cash in what you use to take the photos with, will help you big time. When I started as a blogger I always used a basic Canon DSLR and a 50mm 1.8 lens. It’s quite affordable and will do the trick too. The one downside is that it’s a portrait lens, so shooting from far away will not always work.
  3. Editing. So when you have a good pic, you can make it even better using the right editing programs. Some girls are very much into using iPhoto or basic editing programs, focusing on colour and contrast. I prefer to use Photoshop because you can do so much more with this. Not necessarily to change a lot of things, but to enhance. It’ll take you some time to get the hang of things, but it’ll surely be worth it. For my Instagram photos I use Afterlight, and sometimes Facetune (they have nice filters too, and the lighting and detail functions are great) and Instagram itself.
  4. Angle. This one is quite important, and practice makes perfect. When you’re shooting outfit pics you’d have to figure out if you’d prefer the photographer shoot from below or a bit higher up. Even shooting from above can give a cool effect. For example, I prefer to have my horizons straight and capture food from above.
  5. Contrasts. Last but not least, it’s also what you capture that makes your pic a good one or not. Or at least an interesting one. Bright colors popping, a lot of fuzziness in the background, focusing on just one item, making something look very small, or perhaps magnifying it.
